Welcome to Advanced Creative Writing!

I recognize a few names from prior classes and I’m excited to get to meet those students I don’t know yet.

Advanced Creative Writing is an opportunity to build upon your prior work in Introduction to Creative Writing and to push further and deeper in your creative writing.  You will once again emerge with a portfolio of work that represents the best of your semester.  My aim this semester is to allow all of you to explore and understand the process of writing and revision.

A few thoughts I want to leave you with before we begin:

--Online Etiquette: Because this is an online course we need to observe a bit of online etiquette.  That means reading the work of fellow students carefully and thoroughly, and responding in a courteous, thoughtful manner.

--Timeliness: I will be posting and explaining the structure of the class once the semester begins.  It is very important that you adhere to the schedule that I set up so that people can receive their feedback in a timely fashion.  If the schedule isn’t working (which sometimes happens in an online class) I will adjust.

--Meeting in person: I have found that online courses work best if you come and meet with me at least once in the semester to discuss your work.  My office hours this semester are Mondays and Wednesdays, from 2:00-3:30 p.m.

--Instructions: Please read all instructions carefully.  Online courses require a lot of independence, which means that it is important to read the postings and organize yourself accordingly.

With that, I’ll leave you with one last instruction: The course shell will be live and the syllabus will be posted the first week of classes.   There are no texts that you must purchase for this class, but I will be posting materials on to Blackboard.  If you have never used Blackboard, PLEASE take a moment to familiarize yourself with the settings and operation.  If you need help, there is instructional technology staff to help you.

Best,
