William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey (just 20 miles from Manhattan), is hosting a very special academic celebration of Stephen Sondheim's fifty-year theatrical career: The Sagacious Stephen Sondheim. Sondheim will speak on Friday evening* and a special Valentine’s night dinner and preview performance of the Broadway revival of Sunday in the Park with George is an option for Thursday evening. University credit and continuing education units (CEUs) are available. The symposium also serves as a regional conference for the International NETWORK of Schools for the Advancement of Arts Education.

The two-day program will take place over a double-holiday weekend in February—Valentine's Day and President's Day—a perfect time to come to the metropolitan area and enjoy the symposium with a full complement of panels, paper presentations, speakers, master classes and performances, and, perhaps, lengthen your stay and enjoy the cultural delights of Manhattan.

*Appearing with Stephen Sondheim at the Friday evening presentation is Anthony Rapp, best known for creating the role of Mark Cohen in the Broadway and feature film versions of Rent, who will provide vocal illustrations. Sean Patrick Flahaven, associate editor of the Sondheim Review, will moderate.
