Coretta Scott King Award Winners

The Coretta Scott King award, established in 1969, is given by The American Library Association (ALA), to honor authors and illustrators of children's literature.

The recipients are of African descent whose books portray some aspect of the African American experience. The award commemorates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and recognizes his widow for her determination in continuing to work for peace and brotherhood.

The award winners are chosen by a seven member jury for inspirational and educational excellence in writing and illustration.

For additional information, see the ALA website: http://www.ala.org/srrt/csking/index.html.

The following is a complete listing of all Coretta Scott King Award winners. When the title is owned by the William Paterson University Library the call number follows the bibliographic citation. Most titles are available in the Curriculum Materials Department. An * indicates the title is not owned by the library.
