William Paterson University students, faculty and staff who hold a valid, barcoded identification card may borrow materials from public libraries in Passaic County. Please note that of the fifteen municipal public libraries in Passaic County:

• Six libraries share a catalog through the Computer Consortium of Passaic County Libraries (PALS Plus)
• Two libraries make their catalogs available through the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS)
• One library (Wayne Public Library) maintains its own online catalog, and
• Six libraries do not yet offer access to their catalogs through the internet

The libraries and library systems listed below are among those closest and most accessible to the William Paterson community. Access to academic libraries in New York can usually be arranged by contacting the library information or access office. The Metropolitan New York Library Council maintains an extensive online directory of links to libraries in the New York City area.

The following is a selected list of New Jersey museums that maintain web sites. A larger statewide directory is also available.

Afro-American Historical Society Museum (Jersey City)

The collection focus is New Jersey African American history. Features numerous artifacts and a 3,500-volume library.

Atlantic City Historical Museum (Atlantic City)

"The permanent exhibition, `Atlantic City, Playground of the Nation,' displays artifacts, costumes, posters, photographs, songsheets, postcards, souvenirs, and an array of Miss America memorabilia." Rotating exhibits of historic photographs are also on display.

Edison National Historic Site (West Orange)

The Edison site features Thomas Edison's home and research laboratories (built in 1887); the laboratories are widely regarded as prototypes for modern industrial research and development facilities. The museum collection, which includes some 400,000 artifacts and the archives contain approximately five million documents.

Jane Voorhess Zimmerli Art Museum (New Brunswick)

The collection includes paintings, graphics, and sculpture, with strengths in Japanese, French, Russian, and American art. Research facilities include over 500 volumes of art catalogs and over 4,000 volumes of French fin de siecle illustrated books and periodicals.

Liberty Science Center (Jersey City)

Dynamic facility emphasizes interactive learning through a variety of exhibits dealing with several aspects of science, technology, invention, health, nature, and the environment.

Montclair Art Museum (Montclair)

The museum's collection focus is American and Native American art, and it currently holds more than 15,000 works in a variety of media. Along with the permanent collection, the museum houses a research library containing over 14,000 books, plus periodicals, art slides, exhibition catalogs, and more.

New Jersey Botanical Garden at Skylands (Ringwood)

The Skylands site includes a Tudor-style manor house designed by John Russell Pope. Among the special features of the house are a collection of stained glass medallions set in leaded windows and decorative fixtures fashioned from iron. The nine estate gardens cover 96 acres and have been preserved according to their original design.

New Jersey State Museum (Trenton)

"Established in 1895, the New Jersey State Museum is a general museum that collects, exhibits and interprets in four broad areas of interest: natural history, archaeology/ethnology, cultural history, and fine art. The facility features a four-level main building, an adjacent 416-seat auditorium, and an adjoining 150-seat state- of-the-art Planetarium.

Newark Museum (Newark)

The largest museum complex in New Jersey includes 80 galleries of art and science, a mini zoo, a planetarium, an auditorium, a sculpture garden, a schoolhouse and the Ballantine House, a restored 1885 mansion that is a National Historic Landmark.

Paterson Museum (Paterson)

The museum includes collections of minerals, Indian artifacts, local history materials, entomological and zoological specimens, and items illustrating the industrial history of Paterson and New Jersey.

Van Riper-Hopper House/Wayne Museum (Wayne)

"Built by Uriah Van Riper in 1786, this home became a Wayne Township Museum in June 1964, and is the headquarters of the Wayne Historical Commission." Its collection includes many artifacts and furnishings from the colonial period to 1860 and a small library of books on local history.

Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center (Little Falls)

In addition to its permanent collection, which traces Berra's long career as a baseball player and manager, the museum "offers a collage of images and artifacts representing baseball's 19th and early 20th century history - and its Northern Jersey and New York City roots."
