Music Education

The music education program is designed to provide music educators with a solid basis for professional success as a teacher through courses in performance, theory, music history, music education, education, and liberal studies. Because we believe that outstanding performing skills assist in the development of an outstanding educator, all music education students take private weekly lessons on their instrument; participate in instrumental, choral, and chamber ensembles; study voice, piano, and all band and orchestra instruments; and have opportunities to perform at the weekly recital hour. William Paterson's student chapter of the Music Educators National Conference, the largest in the state of New Jersey, provides students opportunities to discuss music education issues, assist one another in developing teaching skills and professional knowledge, participate in regional and national conventions, and enjoy social activities. We are very proud that the William Paterson bachelor of music degree is in every sense a degree in both music and education.
