Dave Lory - Visiting Resident Music Management Expert Fall 2009
Dave Lory had been developing and breaking artists both as management (Jeff Buckley, The Allman Brothers) and at Major and Independent labels (Elvis Costello, Bon Jovi, Cake) for three decades and is currently the CEO/President of Worldwide Entertainment Group Inc. Previously, Dave lead the International & Artist Development departments at both Mercury Records and Artemis Records, the latter of which he helped set and structure from the outset. Artemis was voted Independent Label of the Year two years running by industry bible, Billboard Magazine. Lory was also twice nominated for the Pollstar Magazine Artist Development of the Year Award. He was a founding member of the Music Manager's Forum, which provides educational forums for up and coming managers, and in addition, he has been involved with the "Grammy in the Schools" program for NARAS.
Dr. Stephen Marcone
Program Director. B.A.; M.M.Ed.; Ed.D. Syracuse University. Formerly artist on Epic Records. He has written articles for such publications as: Music Educators Journal, The Instrumentalist, NAJE Journal, and Musician Magazine. Marcone has lectured at the Hartt School of Music, NYU, College of the Finger Lakes, Central Connecticut State U.,MENC National and Regional Conferences, College Music Society Annual Meetings, National Association of Schools of Music Annual Meetings, New Jersey Music Educators Association, NJ Artist-Teacher Institute, and the Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Association. He is the author of Managing Your Band, in its 4th edition, distributed by Hal Leonard and is a frequent lecturer for the NJ Council on the Humanities. Each summer Marcone conducts the University's Summer Jazz Ensemble. In 1984, he came to the William Paterson University of New Jersey where he was Chairperson of the Music Department for 15 years, and is currently Graduate Studies Coordinator.
E. Michael Harrington
is a consultant in music copyright and intellectual property matters, a member of Leadership Music, Chair of the College Music Society's Committee on Music Industry, on the Board of Directors of the Nashville Composers Association, Plagiary and several other organizations.
He has been interviewed by the New York Times, CNN, Wall Street Journal, Bravo, Associated Press, PBS, the TODAY Show, NPR, Radio Canada, PC Magazine, Billboard, USA Today, Salon, XM Radio, Rolling Stone, Money Magazine, Investor's Business Daily, Mergers & Acquisitions, People Magazine, Life Magazine, Readers' Digest, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Miami Herald and others.
He has worked as consultant and expert witness in hundreds of music copyright matters involving director Steven Spielberg, producer Mark Burnett, the Dixie Chicks, Woody Guthrie, Steve Perry, Keith Urban, Ne-Yo, T-Pain, T. I., Akon, Snoop Dogg, Collin Raye, Tupac Shakur, George Clinton, Mariah Carey, Patty Loveless and others, delivered more than 100 lectures to more than 70 law schools, organizations, universities and music conferences/festivals throughout North America including Harvard Law, Yale Law, George Washington University Law, Cardozo Law, Brooklyn Law, BC Law, Loyola Law, the Boston Bar Association, the European Film Commission, the Experience Music Project, NEMO, Future of Music Coalition, Miami, Berklee, NYU, UCR, McGill, Carleton, Eastman, Emory, and others, and been a consultant to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Columbia Law School, UCLA Law School, Mel Bay, St. Jude's Children Hospital and others.
