Music Department Admissions - Graduate

Welcome to the Graduate Admissions Process

1. To apply to become a graduate student in music you must first apply to William Paterson University. Applications are available from the Admissions Office, or you may apply online.  A decision cannot be made on your application to the music department until your university application and all official transcript have been received by the graduate studies office. Applicants to the Jazz Studies program should fulfill these requirements no later than two weeks after the Feb. 1 deadline to ensure audition CDs will be considered.

2. You must also fill out and return a Music Department application. You may download an application in Adobe Acrobat format by clicking on the link below. Your application to the music application and audition CD (jazz only) should be sent directly to the music department at the address listed on the music department application.

The deadline for submission of music department applications for fall matriculation is April 1, with the exception of graduate degrees offered by the Jazz Studies program, which is February 1. There are no jazz auditions in the fall for spring matriculation. The deadline for submission of music department applications for spring matriculation is November 15 for classical programs only.

3. All students must audition as part of the admissions process, with the exception of Music Management students who have earned an undergraduate degree in music. Information regarding the audition will be sent to you upon receipt of your music department application. Jazz auditions are by tape or CD only.
