       In is in his work that we hirst find reference to the "Malinche"
       "virgen"/"puta" story - at least from the Spanish viewpoint.

1521- Mexico City started to be built on Tenochtitlan.

1800: "Corridas" -ballads: see "Kansas" for a sample
1846-8 - Mexican American War: US gains NV, UT,CA, TX, NM, AZ and CO. Note that
         all of these places were Spanish up until 150 years ago. From the
         Mexican point of view, Anglos were the "illegal aliens".
1860- Benito Juarez (Civil War in US); tried lan distribution
1876-1911- Porfirio Diaz Dictatorship
1915: Mexican Revolution.   (World War I)
1930's and 1940's: American influence over Mexican industry (_Borderlands_ p. 9)
1960's- The beginnings of Chicano Civil Rights Movement; Grape boycott
        Ceasar Chevez.

        of all parts of North and South America. It was up dated in 1991
	after first being published in 1968. The maps in the handouts
	are from his book and give the linguistic breakdown of the Americas.
